Portable Oil-in-Water Analysers
Choose portable oil-in-water analysis for grab samples, treatment checks and investigations across multiple sampling points.
Choose the analyser around the oil you need to measure
A portable oil in water analyser gives operators a practical way to investigate individual samples without installing a monitor at every location. It is useful when the decision concerns a particular treatment stage, an unexpected reading or a series of samples collected around a site.
PMA supplies the TD-550 and TD-560 for fluorescence-based sample analysis. The important choice is the target hydrocarbon and its response, not simply the highest stated measurement range. Tell us what oil may be present, the expected concentration and how the result will be used; we can then review the model and method with you.

TD-550
A starting point for crude oil and heavier petroleum targets. Review the target oil and required sensitivity before specifying.

TD-560
Adds a second optical channel for lighter hydrocarbon targets as well as the TD-550 measurement channel.
Plan a repeatable grab-sample workflow
Sampling locations
Define the points you need to compare, such as upstream and downstream treatment samples. Record the location, collection time and operating conditions so a change in the result can be interpreted in context.
Calibration and preparation
Agree a representative target-oil calibration and sample-preparation method. Extraction and no-solvent workflows are available, but the appropriate method depends on the sample and the required reporting basis.
Results and follow-up
Use stored readings and location records to support investigations and repeat checks. When oil composition or the water matrix changes, review the calibration rather than assuming that the previous response remains representative.
Frequently asked questions
Should I choose the TD-550 or TD-560?
Start with the hydrocarbon. The TD-550 suits many crude-oil and heavier-oil requirements; the TD-560 adds a channel for lighter targets. PMA can review your oil sample, expected range and preparation method before recommending a model.
Is a portable analyser the same as an online oil monitor?
No. A portable analyser measures collected samples. An online monitor measures a flowing sample continuously and is the more appropriate starting point when a process alarm or trend between operator visits is required. The two approaches can complement each other.
Can portable results replace laboratory reporting?
Not automatically. Fluorescence responds to the target oil and calibration, while laboratory methods may use a different measurement basis. Any correlation must be demonstrated for the sample matrix; retain the laboratory method required by your reporting arrangements.
Do you supply an oil in water analyzer in the UK?
Yes. Analyzer is the American spelling of analyser. PMA provides UK application support for the TD-550 and TD-560, including discussion of the target hydrocarbon, sampling method and calibration requirements.
